DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
