DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future.
