DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
