Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of drug and alcohol treatment center because of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This can occur for instance if a person is convicted of driving under the influence or DWI, and for any other type of drug related crime that has led the court to think the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of taking part in an alcohol and drug treatment program as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered through the court it's well advised that the individual do everything they are able to to benefit from this opportunity. On many occasions, other penalties and consequences can be completely eradicated or lessened when the individual does well in rehab and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility that is ordered for them. First time offenders will be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients who take part in rehabilitation instead of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those people who are ordered to prison time or similar consequences. In the long run, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients obtain effective rehab.
