DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
