DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road.
