DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse.
