DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
