DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
