Dual Diagnosis - Falls Church

Dual diagnosis can be a situation whereby two independent disorders exist, and most typically denotes a co-occurring drug abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help someone who may not have been capable of being helped previously, end substance abuse because they can be correctly diagnosed and treated. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or mistreated that could have prompted and resulted in their drug abuse issues. Establishing the truth that someone is in fact a dual diagnosis client not only helps establish an effective treatment plan for them, but may also help clients better understand what triggered their drug use and how to prevent it in the foreseeable future. Addressing dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process compared to a typical drug rehab program, and individuals who have a dual diagnosis might be required to participate in a substantial aftercare program which may include proper medical support and also continued treatment services. Being identified as having co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person will have to be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in fact a lot of people who have a dual diagnosis experience far better results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment methods are utilized.
