DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
