DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
