DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
