DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
