DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
