DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
