DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
