Outpatient treatment gives rehabilitation clients the ability to maintain specific obligations and aspects of their life-style while taking part in drug and alcohol treatment services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of rehabilitation, and should not be mistaken for the amount of treatment provided within an inpatient or residential rehabilitation setting that is much more intensive. Outpatient treatment may be suited to someone who has a brief history of drug or alcohol use for example, but will most surely not be sufficient for an individual whose treatment needs exceed that which outpatient treatment is able to provide. Individuals involved in substance abuse often require a considerable change of environment, because many of the things which prompt their drug abuse are purely environmental. As an example, if someone else has been physically or emotionally abused and this is prompting their substance abuse, it's impossible for any rehabilitation endeavours to succeed if they go back to such conditions each day. In outpatient treatment, individuals can take advantage of group and one-on-one therapy, in addition to family therapy services.
