DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
