DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
