DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
