DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
