DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
