DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
