DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse.
