DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
