DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse.
