Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of drug and alcohol treatment program on account of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for instance if someone else is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related crime which has led the court to think that the individual has any kind of drug abuse issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in a drug and alcohol rehab program as a criminal justice client, however, if this option is ordered through the court it is strongly advised that the individual do everything they are able to to make the most of this chance. Oftentimes, other penalties and consequences can be entirely eradicated or lessened if the individual does well in treatment and completes the drug and alcohol treatment facility that is ordered for them. First-time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients who do experience treatment in lieu of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to incarceration or receive other penalties. Eventually, it saves the court system both money and time when criminal justice clients obtain effective treatment.
