DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
