DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
