DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
