DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
