DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
