DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future.
