DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
