DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
