DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road.
