Outpatient treatment gives rehabilitation clients the opportunity to maintain certain obligations and elements of their life-style while taking part in drug rehab services. Outpatient treatment is a moderate level of treatment, and should not be mistaken for the amount of rehabilitation provided in an inpatient or residential rehabilitation setting that is significantly more intensive. Outpatient treatment may be well suited for anyone who has a brief history of drug abuse for example, but will almost certainly not be adequate for a person whose rehab needs exceed that which outpatient treatment is prepared to provide. Individuals dealing with drug and alcohol use often require an extreme change of environment, because many of the things that trigger their drug abuse are strictly environmental. In outpatient treatment, clients can engage in group and individual therapy, along with family counseling services. In outpatient treatment, most programs will provide services 6 or 7 days each week on either a part time or full-time schedule for four weeks or longer in some cases.
