DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
