DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future.
