DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
