DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to rehab either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
