DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
