DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their substance abuse.
