DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
