DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
