DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could possibly be required to go to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
