Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of alcohol and drug rehabilitation program because of alcohol or drug related criminal offense. This can occur for example if someone else is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or for any other type of drug related offense that has led the court to think that the individual has any sort of drug or alcohol use issue. Not everyone has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, however, if this option is ordered by the court it is strongly advised that the individual do everything they can to make the most of this opportunity. Oftentimes, other penalties and consequences may be entirely eliminated or lessened when the individual succeeds in rehab and finishes the drug and alcohol treatment program which was ordered for them. First-time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been proven that criminal justice clients who take part in rehabilitation in place of other consequences have significantly lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to incarceration or receive other penalties. In the end, it saves a legal court system both money and time when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
