DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
