DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
